Friendship

Writer's picture: HadassahHadassah

A man of many friends might come to ruin, But there is a Loving One Who sticks closer than a brother!

Proverbs 18:24

A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. A man lacking heart shakes hands in a pledge, He becomes a guarantor for his friend. He who loves transgression loves strife, He who exalts his door seeks destruction.

Proverbs 17:17-19

Open reproof is better than hidden love. The wounds of a loved one are true, But the kisses of an enemy are profuse.

Proverbs 27:5-6

Ointment and perfume gladden the heart, So one’s counsel is sweet to his friend. Do not forsake your own friend or your father’s friend, And do not go into your brother’s house In the day of your calamity — Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away. My son, be wise, and gladden my heart, That I might have a word for him who reproaches me.

Proverbs 27:9-11

The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, But the way of the wrong leads them astray. The lazy one has no game to roast, But the hard worker prizes his possessions. In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death.

Proverbs 12:26-28

He who covers a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends.

Proverbs 17:9

He who loves cleanness of heart, Whose speech is pleasant, A king is his friend.

Proverbs 22:11

For Yehovah pleads their cause, And shall plunder those who plunder them. Make no friendship with one given to wrath, And do not go with a man of rage, Lest you learn his ways, And find yourself ensnared. Do not be one of those who shakes hands in a pledge, One of those who are guarantors for debts.

Proverbs 22:23-26

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, one lifts his companion up. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Also, if two lie down together, they keep warm by himself? Although one might be overpowered, two withstand him. And a threefold cord is not readily broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

“This is My command, that you love one another, as I have loved you. “No one has greater love than this: that one should lay down his life for his friends. “You are My friends is you do whatever I command you. “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, for all teachings which I heard from My Father I have made known to you. “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name He might give you. “These words I command you, so that you love one another.

John 15:12-17

If I speak with the tongues of men and of messengers, but do not have love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophecy, and know all secrets and all knowledge, and if I have all belief, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am none at all. And if I give out all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but do not have love, I am not profited at all. Love is patient, is kind, love does not envy, love does not boast, is not puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not seek its own, is not provoked, reckons not evil, does not rejoice over the unrighteousness, but rejoices in truth, it covers all, believes all, expects all, endures all. Love never fails, And whether there be prophecies, they shall be inactive; or tongues, they shall cease; or knowledge, it shall be inactive.

1 Corinthians 13:1-8

Therefore encourage one another, and build up one another, as indeed you do.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

A perverse man sends forth strife, And a whisperer separates intimate friends.

Proverbs 16:28

And above all have fervent love for one another, because love covers a great number of sins. Welcome one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, serve one another, as good trustees of the manifold favor of Elohim.

1 Peter 4:8-10

And let us be concerned for one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging, and so much more as you see the day coming near.

Hebrews 10:24-25

“And as you wish men should do to you, you also do to them in the same way. “And if you love those loving you, what favor have you? For sinners, too, love those loving them.

Luke 6:31-32

In brotherly love, tenderly loving towards one another, in appreciation, giving preference to each other; not idle in duty, ardent in spirit, serving the Master; rejoicing in the expectancy, enduring under pressure, continuing steadfastly in prayer; imparting to the needs of the set-apart ones, pursuing kindness towards strangers.

Romans 12:10-13

He who loves cleanness of heart, Whose speech is pleasant, A king is his friend.

Proverbs 22:11

And it came to be, when he had ended speaking to Saul, that the being of Jonathan was knit to the being of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own being. And Saul took him that day, and would not let him return to his father’s house any more. And Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own being.

1 Samuel 18:1-3

You ask and do not receive, because you ask evilly, in order to spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with Elohim? Whoever therefore intends to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of Elohim. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the Spirit which dwells in us intensely crave unto envy? But He gives greater favor. Because of this He says, “Elohim resists the proud, but gives favor to the humble.”

James 4:3-6

For I long to see you, so as to impart some spiritual gift to you, for you to be established, and that is, to be encouraged together among you, each by other’s belief — both yours and mine.

Romans 1:11-12

Beloved ones, let us love one another, because love is of Elohim, and everyone who loves has been born of Elohim, and knows Elohim. The one who does not love does not know Elohim, for Elohim is love. By this the love of Elohim was manifested in us, that Elohim has sent His only brought-forth Son into the world, in order that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved Elohim, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be an atoning offering for our sins. Beloved ones, if Elohim so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen Elohim at any time. If we love another, Elohim does stay one us, and His love has been perfected in us.

1 John 4:7-12

Even my own friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. But this I know that You did delight in me, Because my enemy does not shout for joy over me. And I, You uphold me in my integrity, And set me before Your face forever. Blessed be Yehovah Elohim of Israel. From everlasting to everlasting! Ahemin and Ahemin.

Psalms 41:9-13

Therefore, as chosen ones of Elohim, set-apart and beloved, put on compassion, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, patience, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other if anyone has a complaint against another, indeed, as Messiah forgave you so also should you. But above all these put on love, which is a bond of the perfection.

Colossians 3:12-14

See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity —

Psalms 133:1

It is not an enemy who reproaches me — That I could bear; Nor one who hates me who is making himself great against me — Then I could hide from him. But it was you, a man my equal, My companion and my friend. We took counsel together, We walked to the House of Elohim in the throng.

Psalms 55:12-14

“For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there I am in their midst.”

Matthew 18:20

Brothers, if a man is overtaken in some trespass, you the spiritual ones, set such a one straight in a spirit of meekness, looking at yourself lest you be tried too. Bear one another’s burdens, and so complete the Torah of Messiah.

Galatians 6:1-2

And the Scripture was filled which says, “Abraham believed Elohim, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness.” And He called him, “he who loves Elohim.”

James 2:23

“Remain with me, do not fear. For he who seeks my life seeks your life, but with me you are safe.”

1 Samuel 22:23

Draw near to Elohim and He shall draw near to you. Cleanse hands, sinners. And cleanse the hearts, you double-minded!

James 4:8

We love Him because He first loved us. If someone says, “I love Elohim,” and hates his brother, he is a liar. For the one not loving his brother whom he has seen, how is he able to love Elohim whom he has not seen? And we have this command from Him, that the one loving Elohim should love his brother too.

1 John 4:19-21

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not be proud in mind, but go along with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

Romans 12:15-16

And do not grieve the Set-apart Spirit of Elohim, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and displeasure, and uproar, and slander be put away from you, along with all evil. And be kind towards one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as Elohim also forgave you in Messiah.

Ephesians 4:30-32

When a man’s ways please Yehovah, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Proverbs 16:7

He has removed my brothers far away from me, and my friends are completely estranged from me. My near ones have fallen away, and my close friends have forgotten me. The guests in my house, and my female servants, reckon me for a stranger — I am a foreigner in their eyes. I have called my servant, but he gives no answer - I have to beg him with my mouth. My spirit is strange to my wife, and my loving-commitment to the children of my own body. Even young children have scorned me. I rise, and they speak against me. All my intimate friends loathe me, and those whom I love have turned against me. My bone clings to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth. Show favor to me, show favor to me, O you my friends, for the hand of Eloah has struck me! Why do you persecute me like El does, and are not satisfied with my flesh? Oh, that my words were written down! Oh, that they were inscribed in a book, engraved on a rock with an iron pen and lead, forever!

Job 19:13-24

Thus Yehovah spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the Tent. And Moses said to Yehovah, “See, You are saying to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not made known to me whom You would send with me, though You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you also found favor in My eyes.’ “And now, please, if I have found favor in Your eyes, please show me Your way, and let me know You, so that I find favor in Your eyes. And consider that this nation is Your people.”

Exodus 33:11-13

“See, there with them are their two sons, Ahima’ats, Tsadoq’s son, and Jonathan, Ebyathar’s son. And by them you shall send me every matter you hear.” And Hushai, David’s friend, went into the city. And Abshalom came into Yerushalayim.

2 Samuel 15:36-37

A scoffer shall seek wisdom but find none, But knowledge is swift to him who has understanding. Leave the presence of a foolish man, For you shall not perceive the lips of knowledge.

Proverbs 14:6-7

Elohim makes a home for the lonely; He brings out into prosperity. Those who are bound with chains; Only the rebellious shall dwell in a dry land. O Elohim, when You went out before Your people, When You stepped through the wilderness, Selah. The earth shook and the heavens dropped before Elohim, This Sinai, shook before Elohim, the Elohim of Israel.

Psalms 68:6-8

My friends are they that scorn me; my eyes pour out tears to Eloah. O that one might plead for a man with Eloah, as a man with his neighbor! When a few years are past, then I shall go the way of no return

Job 16:20-22

And Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, since we have both sworn in the Name of Yehovha, saying, ‘Yehovah is between you and me, and between your seed and my seed, forever.’ ” Then he arose and left, and Jonathan went into the city.

1 Samuel 20:42

Whom do I have in the heavens? And I have desired no one besides You on earth. My flesh and my heart shall waste away, But Elohim is the rock of my heart And my portion forever.

Psalms 73:25-26

Without counsel, plans go wrong, But by great counsellors they are established.

Proverbs 15:22

But whoever guards His Word, truly the love of Elohim has been perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked. Beloved, I write no fresh command to you, but an old command which you have had from the beginning. The old command is the Word which you heard from the beginning. Again I write to you a fresh command, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light now shines.

1 John 1:5-8

Trust no friend, rely on no companion, guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom. For son is despising father, daughter rises up against her mother, daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, the enemies of a man are the men of his own house. As for me, I look to Yehovah, I wait for the Elohim of my deliverance, my Elohim does hear me.

Micah 7:5-7

Sha’ul, an emissary of Ye’shua Messiah by the desire of Elohim, according to the promise of life which is in Messiah Ye’shua, to Timotiyos, my beloved son, Favour, compassion, peace from Elohim the Father, and Messiah Ye’shua our Master. I thank Elohim, whom I serve with a clear conscience, as my forefathers did, as I unceasingly remember you in my prayers night and day, longing to see you, as I remember your tears, so that I might be filled with joy.

2 Timothy 1:1-4

At the first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. Let it not be held against them.

2 Timothy 4:16

Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness and lawlessness? And what fellowship has light with darkness? And what agreement has Messiah with Beliya’al? Or what part does a believer have with an unbeliever? And what union has the Dwelling Place of Elohim with idols? For you are a Dwelling Place of the living Elohim, as Elohim has said, “I shall dwell in them and walk among them, and I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.” Therefore, “Come out from among them and be separate, says Yehovah, and do not touch what is unclean, and I shall receive you. “And I shall be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me, says Yehovah the Almighty.”

2 Corinthians 6:14-18

Little children, let no one lead you astray. The one doing righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous

1 John 3:7

I call upon you therefore, I the prisoner of the Master, to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called, with all humility and meekness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to guard the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, one body and one Spirit, as you also were called in one expectation of your calling, one Master, one belief, one immersion, one Elohim and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But to each one of us favor was given according to the measure of the gift of Messiah.

Ephesians 4:1-7

“For Elohim so loved the world that He gave His only brought-forth Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but possess everlasting life.

John 3:16

“Peace I leave with you — My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27
