What the Scripture says about the New Moon

NEW MOON



1) Let no one therefore judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a festival or a new moon or sabbaths — which are a shadow of what is to come — but the Body of the Messiah.

Colossians 2:16-17


2) ‘And on the beginning of your new moons you bring near an ascending offering to Yahovah: two young bulls and one ram, and seven lambs a year old, perfect ones; three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour as a grain offering, mixed with oil, for each bull; two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour as a grain offering, mixed with oil, for the one ram; and one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour, mixed with oil, as a grain offering for each lamb, as an ascending offering of sweet fragrance, an offering made by fire to Yahovah. ‘And their drink offering is half a hin of wine for a bull, and one-third of a hin for a ram, and one-fourth of a hin for a lamb. This is the ascending offering for each new moon throughout the new moons of the year, and one male goat as a sin offering to Yahovah is prepared, besides the continual ascending offering and its drink offering. ‘And in the first new moon, on the fourteenth day, is the Passover of Yahovah, and on the fifthteenth day of this new moon is a festival. For seven days Unleavened Bread is eaten.

Numbers 28:11-17


3) “And in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed times, and at the beginning of your new moons, you shall blow the trumpets over your ascending offerings and over slaughterings of peace offerings. And they shall be a remembrance for you before your Elohim. I am Yahovah your Elohim.” And it came to be on the twentieth day of the second new moon, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from above the Dwelling Place of the Witness.

4) For I see Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have established.

Psalms 8:3


5) and to stand every morning to thank and praise Yahovah, and so at evening; and for all the ascending offerings to Yahovah on the Sabbaths and on the New Moons and on the appointed times, by number according to the right-ruling upon them, continually before Yahovah;

1st Chronicles 23:30-31


6) see, I am building a House for the Name of Yahovah my Elohim, to set it apart to Him, to burn before Him sweet incense, and for the continual showbread, and for the ascending offerings morning and evening, on sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the appointed times of Yahovah our Elohim. This is for Israel forever.

7) even as the duty of every day required, offering according to the command of Moses, for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the appointed times three times a year: the Festival of Matzot, and the Festival of Shavuot, and the Festival of Sukkot.

8) And the sovereign portioned of his possessions for the ascending offerings, for the morning and evening ascending offerings, and the ascending offerings for the sabbaths and for the new moons and for the appointed times, as it is written in the Torah of Yahovah.

Ezekiel 45:17-18


12) “And do the same on the seventh of the new moon for anyone who makes a mistake or is foolish. And you shall make atonement for the House. “In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the New Moon, you have the Passover, a festival of seven days, Unleavened Bread is eaten.

Ezekiel 45:20-21


13) “In the seventh month, on the fifteenth day of the new moon, at the festival, he prepares like these seven days, as the sin offering, as the ascending offering, as the grain offering, and as the oil.”

14) ’Thus said the Master Yahovah, “The gate of the inner courtyard facing east is shut the six days of work, but on the sabbath it is opened, and on the day of the new moon it is opened.

Ezekiel 46:1


15) “And the people of the land shall also bow themselves at the entrance to this gate before Yahovah, on the sabbaths and on the new moons.

24) “And I shall cause all her rejoicing, her festivals, her New Moons, and her Sabbaths, even all her appointed times, to cease,

Hosea 2:11


25) “They have acted treacherously against Yahovah, for they have brought forth strange children. Now a new moon shall devour them with their portions.

Numbers 11:19-21


29) Blow a shofar in the New Moon, in the covering for the day of our festival.

Psalms 81:3


30) “For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make stand before Me,” declares Yahovah, “so your seed and your name shall stand. “And it shall be from New Moon to New Moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before Me,” declares Yahovah.

Isaiah 66:22-23

30) And in the seventh new moon, the seventeenth day of the new moon, the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat. And the waters decreased steadily until the tenth new moon. In the tenth new moon, on the first day of the new moon, the tops of the mountains became visible.

Genesis 8:4-5


31) And it came to be in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the new moon that the waters were dried up from the earth. And Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and saw the surface of the ground was dry. And in the second new moon, on the twenty-seventh day of the new moon, the earth was dry.

Deuteronomy 1:3-4


33) And the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and performed the Peasch (Passover) on the fourthteenth day of the new moon at the evening on the desert plains of Jericho.

34) In the third new moon after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, on this day they came to the Wilderness of Sinai. For they set out from Rephidim, and had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped on the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the mountain.

35) Blow a shofar in the New moon, in the covering for a day of our festival. For this is a law for Israel, And a right-ruling of Elohim of Ya’aqob (Jacob). He appointed it in Yehoseph (Joseph) for a witness, When He went throughout the land of Egypt; I heard a language that I did not know.

Psalms 81:3-5


36) But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of RImmon, and they dwelt at the rock of Rimmon for four new moons.

Judges 20:47


37) And Jonathan rose up from the table in the heat of displeasure, and ate no food the second day of the new moon, for he was grieved for David, because his father put him to shame.

1st Samuel 20:34


38) And Yarob’am performed a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth new moon, like festival that was in Judah, and he offered on the slaugher-place. So he did at Beyth El, slaughtering to the calves that he had made. And at Beyth El he appointed the priests of the high places which he had made. Leviticus 23:5-8


44) And Yehovah spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘In the seventh new moon, on the first day of the new moon, you have a rest, a remembrance of Teru’ah, a set-apart gathering. ‘You do no service work, and you shall bring an offering made by fire to Yehovah.’ ” And Yehovah spoke to Moses, saying, “On the tenth day of this seventh new moon is Yom haKippurim. It shall be a set-apart gathering for you. And you shall afflict your beings, and shall bring an offering made by fire to Yehovah. “And you do no work on the that same day, for it is Yom haKippurim, to make atonement for you before Yehovah your Elohim. “For any being who is not afflicted on that same day, he shall be cut off from his people. “And any being who does any work on that same day, that being I shall destroy from the midst of his people. “You do no work — a law forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. ‘It is a Sabbath of rest to you, and you shall afflict your beings. On the ninth day of the new moon at evening, from evening to evening, you observe your Sabbath.” And Yehovah spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh new moon is the Festival of Sukkot for seven days to Yehovah. ‘On the first day is a set-apart gathering, you do no service work. ‘For seven days you bring an offering made by fire to Yehovah. On the eighth day there shall be a set-apart gathering for you, and you shall bring an offering made by fire to Yehovah. It is a closing festival, you do no service work. ‘These are the appointed times of Yehovah which you proclaim as set-apart gatherings, to bring an offering made by fire to Yehovah, an ascending offering and a grain offering, a slaughtering and drink offerings, as commanded for every day — besides the Sabbaths of Yehovah, and besides your gifts, and besides all your vows, and besides all your voluntary offerings which you give to Yehovah. ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh new moon, when you gather in the fruit of the land, celebrate the festival of Yehovah for seven days. On the first day is a rest, and on the eighth day a rest. ‘And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of good trees, branches of palm trees, twigs of leafy trees, and willows of the stream, and shall rejoice before Yehovah your Elohim for seven days. ‘And you shall celebrate it as a festival to Yehovah for seven days in the year — a law forever in your generations. Celebrate it in the seventh new moon. ‘Dwell in booths for seven days; all who are native born in Israel dwell in booths, so that your generations know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt . I am Yehovah your Elohim.’ “ Thus did Moses speak of the appointed times of Yehovah to the children of Israel.

Leviticus 23:23-44


45) ‘And you shall count seven Sabbaths of years for yourselves, seven times seven years. And the time of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years. ‘You shall then sound a shophar-sound on the tenth day of the seventh new moon, on Yom haKippurim cause a shophar to sound through all your land.
